A Brief History

Our club was conceived in January 1993 - at the very same 'pub' that enjoys our patronage today-known at that time as the 'Waterford Arms Tavern' today it is Fitzy's Waterford. (see details of Club's Incorporation and Name Change below.

In January 1993 a few of the 'local lads' were downing a few coldies when the ensuing discussions turned to GOLF! - most good ideas are hatched in such conditions- the founding of our golf club was no exception. 10 merry men established the club in conjunction with the Licensee of the time (Ray O'Connor) who become the 1st President, Geoff McFarlane took on the roles of Secretary/Treasurer and Garth Goodwin was anointed as Club Captain. Within a few weeks the club was off and running with interest being shown by several other locals.

The first Club game took place in February 1993 at the infamous California Creek (Loganholme) with a contingent of 18 players teeing-up. The club soon grew in numbers and we were consistently teeing-off 24 to 30 players at each game. Club membership, at its peak, reached 50 playing members. These numbers were quite difficult to accommodate in terms of the time required to get all players off the tee together with the waiting for all players to complete their round and meet for the resultant presentations (whilst membership is not restricted we now look to present 20 - 24 players at each of our fortnightly events). Our club acknowledges the earliest efforts and consistent discipline of Geoff McFarlane in setting up and maintaining the fortnightly competitions that 'set-the-scene' for the yearly Games Calendar that is presented today.

Whilst an inaugural Set of Rules (Constitution) was drafted and implemented by the Club in 1994, that aligned with the Model Rules as defined by the Queensland Department of Consumer Affairs (together with relevant aspects of the Associations Incorporation Act 1981) ,was drafted, adopted and registered with the Queensland Department of Consumer Affairs — the  Club duly achieved incorporation in August 1996 — in parallel with the incorporation, the official name of  the Club became Waterford Arms Social Golf Club Incorporated.  NOTE: the word Incorporated is often abbreviated to Inc.

The formal presentation  and recording of the Clubs annual financial matters commenced in 1994 — the first Annual General Meeting of the Club was conducted in 1996.

In 1999 the O'Connor family sold the Waterford Arms Tavern to the Fitzgibbon chain of facilities. Following may discussions and considerations the Club took the decision to change its name to Fitzy's Waterford Social Golf Club Incorporated, (FWSGC) this name was lodged with the State Development and Information Centre Beenleigh on 27th June 2004 by our President Ray Thompson

In June 2007 Queensland Club's and Associations were delivered with a reform to the “Associations Incorporation Act 1981“. As a consequence of the reform the following aspects of the clubs governance were considered , drafted and adopted at the  2008 General Meeting………

                  1)    Changes to Association  Laws

                  2)    Public Liability Insurance for Associations

                  3)    Associations Financial Reporting Requirements

                 4)     Associations Rule Changes for Financial Reporting Requirements

                 5)    Associations Rules and or Amendments

The Club's  Constitution ( which is evidenced in the Website  https://www.fitzyswaterfordsocialgolfclub.org.au , inclusive of it's “By Laws“,

remains under continual review and progress, to ensure that it provides Club Members with a defined pathway of governance.
